Chris Yap

Chris YAP (b 1969) is a well-known and established figure in the Singapore arts scene; having been in photography, painting, music and theatre productions since his early childhood days.

Chris has extensive experience exhibiting his own works as well as curating others artists’ work around the world; notably bringing 24 photographers’ work into 12 libraries in Singapore, and leading a group of Singaporean photographers to Tokyo on show. It is unusual for an artist to organise shows for and promote fellow artists, and still harder to find a Singaporean choosing to live as a full-time artist in commerce-driven Singapore. His extensive contribution to photography can also not be neglected as he promotes local talents and create dialogues within the educated photography community, notably, he created circa – a collection of online images that records the images of local youths 12 to 19 years old; a generation with very little, or no history with film photography. He also lectured regionally as well as at Singapore’s first photography degree program at School of Art, Design and Media (Nanyang Technological University).
